synopsis: Bipasha (Suchitra), born of a Bengali father and a Punjabi mother, flees Pakistan as a refugee after partition. Trained in a missionary institution, she takes up the job of tribal welfare and lands up in Panchet, where she meets Dibyendu (Uttam), a Bengali engineer. Dibyendu has also been deprived of familial love and bondage since childhood, and the two craving hearts become one and decide to get married. On the day of marriage, Dibyendu learns that he is his mother's illegitimate child. He leaves in search of his parents, a journey free himself of the stigma and in Allahabad ultimately finds not only her mother but the father as well. Bipasha runs along by his side and they are reunited after the search for a legitimate lineage ends successfully.
